10:13PM - Halloween Is Every Day
Hello, hello my sistahs!
Since my last post - I am disappointed the writers on my f-list didn't do the meme, BTW *pouts* - I've been meaning to do another entry with a brief recap of the past several months.
This has not happened, obviously.
Long story short - my job has taken over my life. I have been working ridiculously long hours all year, and the weekends go by very quickly, and I'm pretty exhausted most days. Not a lot of time for online shenanigans and various other cyber-pursuits, unfortunately.
But aside from that, I didn't want to go yet another month without making a single entry, so here is my Halloween post in advance:
An arts:
^ By keraaminenkettu
Somes songs:
When You're Evil - Voltaire
^ This fills me with twisted, perverse glee. Hehhehheh...
prfctdaze, you might want to check out this post. I think the other songs there would be to your taste.
Great Pumpkin Waltz - Vince Guaraldi Trio
^ A classic.
I still feel bad for poor Charlie Brown. Rocks are even worse than those disgusting popcorn balls.
A little worse.
Have fun and play safe!

Sage Advice of the Entry:
If you can't finish all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can't finish all your chocolate, what's wrong with you?

8:10PM - Like I Was Saying
So, yeah.
Most of you who are reading this are likely thinking one of two things:
"Wow. I assumed this bitch was dead", or
"Who is this bitch, and what is she doing on my f-list?"
Che. I swear, a person disappears for seven months, and it's like a surprise or something when she suddenly turns up again out of the blue.
Anyway, I came across a meme I decided I wanted to do, and that I wanted to do it in my own Journal.
This entails listing the first line of your last 20 fics, then noting any observations after doing so.
( Once upon a time, in a Dark Forest far, far away... )
I encourage my fellow writers in LJ Land to do this meme. Not only will it be interesting to others, but I think it will also be interesting to you.

Parting Gifts of the Entry:
Three songs that remind me of three characters who only one or two of you will be familiar with:
Irvine - Kelly Clarkson; not the American Idol one
^ Skip this one if you're in the mood for something upbeat and happy.
Cobrastyle - Robyn
^ Heh, heh. Cheeky Scandinavian white girl who thinks she's badass Hip-Hop. Heh, heh.
Weak
^ The singer has a rough, gravely voice, so it might not be everyone's cuppa, but the lyrics are really powerful, and the sentiment is rather "f*ck you", so it's worth at least a listen, non?

Interesting Tidbit of the Entry:

5:37PM - Don't You Look Back
Happy New Year!!!! to all my shorties.
Yo, I hope everyone survived enjoyed the holidays.
I want to say a few thank yous to my LJ buddies for your kindness and thoughtfulness and making me smile this Christmas season.
zehara - Thank you again for your card. It was one of the first ones I received. I'd been having a pretty dismal showing in the holiday cards department up to that point, so it was extra appreciated. *hugs*
prfctdaze - Thank you for your lovely card. It's so pretty and shiny. I loves me some shiny! *snuggles*
sunhawk - Your card was so nice, and the drawing you included was adorable! Thank you for making something special for me. *big squishy hugs and sparkles*
lil_1337 - Your card was so cute, and the bread arrived fresh, moist and absolutely delicious! I've been happily snacking on it the past few days. *lion hugs and purrs*

What would my first post of 2008 be without some presents?
Warning: Very long, very image-heavy, and lots of links

Okay. That took so long, it's probably 2009 by now.

Or at least tell me you're not interested so that I don't ever spend several hours doing this again.

4:52PM - I Won't Even Wish For Snow
Because, quite frankly, I've already had my fill of shite weather this month, TYVM.
Yes, yes. Hello. I'm not completely dead.
Just have had too much craziness going on the last couple of months to get more than a few moments on LJ here and there.
But I had to pop in to wish everyone a very merry Christmas (or your personal equivalent) and a very happy, healthy and blessed New Year!
Also,
zehara, I received your Christmas card. Thank you! :) *big squishy holiday hugs*
See y'all in 2008!
You know how the calendar page says "January" on it, and I didn't LJ-cut it so it might jack up your friends' page? That is just in your imagination, man. Time to lay off the eggnog.

10:33PM - What Have You Done For Me Lately?
So LJ is being a total bitch and not notifying me of responses to my posts or replies to my comments.
I checked to make sure I still have the email option on, and the sonofabitch is selected.
And I have a paid account. Where is my preferential treatment, you bastards?!
Ugh. So. Frustrated.
If it takes me a while to find people's replies to my comments, I'd like to apologize in advance.
I'm going to have to search around to find people's posts or look through their journals, so I'll need a bit of time.
I am also seriously getting pissed about a couple other things, but I'm trying really f*cking hard to be mature about them and just let it go.
Do y'all know how hard that is for a Leo? Especially one who is right all the time?!
As a friend of mine would say, F*CKER F*CKER ASSH*LE!!
On a separate note, those who are in the know, please explain to me what a "lemon" is in terms of fan fiction?
I know I discussed it with someone long ago, but I don't really recall the definition, and I've got a vague impression that someone calling one of my fics that would be offensive to me.
Now I'm going to go around my apartment and kick some inanimate objects until A) I feel better or B) I hurt myself kicking said objects.

10:16PM - Yeah, You'll Do What You're Told
I had a lot of problems with physical pain this past week, not the least of which was an inexplicable flare-up of my ankle.
I can't think of what could've made it hurt this badly again. I even had to use a cane yesterday to get around.
Sucky.
I'm really not old enough to be having all these aches and pains. WTF, life?
But, enough of that. It's been a while since I posted anything remotely interesting fun.

Music. We all like music, do we not? Of course we do!
Maybe some of you will like this music, too:
Foolish Thing - Julia Fordham
^ A friend in college introduced to Ms. Fordham, and it was love at first listen. She's got a rich, throaty, thoroughly lovely voice.
Psst,
lil_1337, this one is on a certain song list I have for certain characters. Will you guess which one? ;p
Sister Song - Rachel Sage
^ Lilith Fair-style girl!power song.
No Mermaid - Sinead Lohan
^ A "take life by the horns" kind of song, with a really catchy chorus.
Good as Gold - Melissa McClelland
^ Most Country lyrics in a non-Country song.
He whispered in my ear, 'You're a sly bitch, you are'/so I drank away my headache/and I stumbled out of his car...
God of Love - Alana Davis
^ Talk about a lush, dreamy voice.
*nudges
lil_1337 again*
Most of you will be familiar with Alana's "32 Flavors" a song I love, and, tragically, do not have in mp3 form.
If anyone happens to have it and can help a brotha out, it would make me as giddy as a fan schoolgirl.
Poor Unfortunate Souls - Jonas Brothers
^ A punk-ish rock cover of Ursula's song in Disney's "The Little Mermaid".
It amuses me muchly.

7:49PM - No Fisherman's Slave
Greetings, Homegirls.
I was on minimal computer time for a few days because the Midwest has been having hella crazy storms.
All last week Chicago had thunderstorms off and on, and last Thursday we got absolutely pummeled.
Lots of really bad flooding and a few hundred thousand people lost power. For many, they still don't have power back.
Craziness. My family and I were very lucky. We all had some degree of power outages, and my dad's basement flooded, but it was nothing near what a lot of other people suffered.
Things have had a chance to dry out this weekend, but they're predicting more rain later this week. I hope not!!
Anyway, I finished a write-up of my vacation to Pennsylvania, for those who are interested.
( On a chocolate farm, near a chocolate stream... )
So, there ya go. Hope that was interesting to anyone who actually read it all.
Have a good week, everyone!

10:34PM - My Brain Hurts
Hey, I'm back from my holiday. I'm working on a post about it.
My birthday was really nice.
Many thank-yous to
lil_1337 and
prfctdaze for making the anniversary of me all the more special.
Now. *sighs*
I came back here to see that the sh*t storm has only gotten stormier and sh*ttier.
I'm having really bad flashbacks to the last time I got caught in the middle of a community meltdown.
This has been one of those things that the longer it goes on, the more complex and twisted it becomes.
Ultimately, both sides are in the right and the wrong on many levels.
Ultimately, it sucks that those of us who are not directly involved in the battle are being drawn into and affected by it.
Ultimately, it really isn't my problem.
Also, I still have not read "Deathly Hallows".
I've still been trying to avoid spoilers, but I've still run across them, anyway.
I'm beginning to realize that I just don't f*cking care.
It stinks how people and situations you have nothing to do with can manage to suck all the enjoyment out of something for you.
This isn't a very happy post, but check the mood, yo.

Rating: G
Warnings: Nope
Feedback: Would be lovely and greatly appreciated

11:09PM - Please See Icon
There is already a ton of spoiler fanart on LJ for "Deathly Hallows".
It's f**king the f**king day after the f**king book was f**king released!
Well, that's it. I'm seriously going to have to stay off the Internet for several days. I've only just started the book, and I have to go to work and live life and sh*t, so I won't be able to finish DH in five f**king minutes the way the rest of the f**king world seems to be able to.
Catch y'all (probably a lot) later.

11:03PM - No One's Innocent
I was going to make a post whining about what a suckosaurus week I had, but I'm too tired right now, and I've got a big day tomorrow.
Getting up around 6 in the morning to start on my journey out to the suburbs. Two trains, two hours to my mom's. Then we get our energy treatments, then lunch, then we hit Borders for "Deathly Hallows", then we hit the theater for "Order of the Phoenix", then I catch the train back and eventually make my way home.
Hopefully I will make it through all that WITHOUT some tnuc ruining the f*cking plot of the book.
It's kind of frustrating for me, actually. There have already been a few attempts in the greater media to spoil the ending, and the pressure is on to like, not put the book down or leave the house until you've finished it, lest you see/read/hear someone giving the whole thing away.
I'll probably end up speed-reading DH for the plot, fully intending to go back and read it for real once that's over, and never actually getting around to it, much like I did with OotP and HBP (even though I got spoiled on HBP, anyway).
Anyway, my point is that all this Potter Mania puts pressure on non-diehards to finish the book ASAP, and that takes away from the enjoyment of actually sitting down and experiencing the process of drinking the words in.
It's dampened my enthusiasm a bit, I have to admit. I hate being pushed to run at the same pace as the BIGGER! FASTER! BETTER! MORE! world.
Ah, well, for someone who should be in bed and was only going to make a quick post, this has become yet another of my rambles.
The real point of this post was supposed to be sharing some music.
I've been in a pretty political mood lately. A lot of that has been reflecting on how many issues from the past haven't really changed much.
The government is sending our young men and women to fight in a war that the majority of the country opposes:
I Had No Right - Dar Williams
^ About the Catonsville Nine
Women are still being oppressed and punished by society, having their rights suppressed or taken away:
The Magdalene Laundries - Joni Mitchell and the Chieftains
^ About the Magdalene Laundries
We are still invading and conquering other people's lands to satisfy our greed and superiority complex, using propaganda to demonize and de-humanize those who oppose us:
Ghost Dance - Robbie Robertson & the Red Road Ensemble
^ The American Indians' experience isn't really much more than what we learn in school where I live in the Midwest, but when I was in South Dakota last summer, I could feel it everywhere. That shamefulness still permeates the air. I broke down and wept when we visited the Crazy Horse monument. I can't really adequately describe the way it affected me.
We are still using propaganda to demonize those in our own country who dare to tell the truth and stand up to an oppressive government.
(Didn't Know I Was)Un-American - Ian Rhett
^ McCarthyism ring any bells?
So glad I could uplift you all this fine summer evening. :X
